Postcard from New Zealand 11 October 1999

practice race America's Cup boats in a practice race on the inner Hauraki Gulf, sailing just north of the green contours of Rangitoto Island. Left to right: America True (San Francisco), Bravo España (Spain), 6ème Sens (France), USA-39 (1995 New Zealand boat used by America True as a trial horse).

Rangitoto Island is a "new" island. Only about 1000 years old. Formed by a volcanic eruption. Last eruption about 700 years ago. Next eruption: when the Kiwi's lose the Cup
