• Sailing (especially on the ocean  — click on the photo)
• Play the fiddle, string bass and guitar (old-time and bluegrass music, and traditional jazz, especially at the NOTFC, Weiser, Idaho, third full week in June)
• Wine tasting (reds mostly, but a cool Gundlach Bundschu gewürtztraminer on a hot summer day is mighty fine, too)
• Fart around with HTML (like make it do things it's not supposed to be able to do  — I confess, I've become an HTML junkie)
• Read (I lean toward mysteries these days  — Sue Grafton, Dick Francis, Sara Paretsky, Jonathon Gash  — but I've enjoyed many a good Louis L'Amour Western, as well as stuff by Mark Twain, John Irving, P.J. O'Rourke, Kurt Vonnegut and W. Shakespeare)

For you NetChicks surfing for NetStuds like me, HANDS OFF! The store's closed. I'm quite happily married to the cute babe (and Net Newbie) Janis Cadwallader, educator extraordinaire and a down-right good pal o' mine. (She'll fight to keep me. At least I hope she will.)

Janis is into collecting paperweights (glass, not granite), birdwatching (I spotted her a life bird once) and amassing vast quantities of Swatch watches (I wish I were kidding). In fact, she's so into paperweights, she was the president of the San Diego Chapter of the Paperweight Collectors' Association for more than a decade.

• If you want to know what's wrong with America today, just watch day-time TV talks shows.
• Professional sports has gotten too big for its britches.

Pet Peeve(s)

• Brainless, illiterate TV and radio news readers who massacre the English language.
• TV newscasts that insist on providing subtitles, then misspelling the words.
• Air travel: Hurry up and wait to get aboard a city bus with wings.
• Handsets on fax machines, obviously designed by a direct descendant of a torturer from the Spanish Inquisition.

Ponderables

Why is it that when you're dog tired and ready to pound the pillow, that after brushing your teeth you're suddenly wide awake? (I lose a lot of sleep over this one. ;-})
